There is a new attractive ala carta buffet promotion happening in Ichiban Japanese Cuisine, The Gurney Resort Hotel and Residences. Food Promotions decided to check it out.

It was slightly warm and tatami room was not available during my visit.

Food Presentation: 4.5/10
A simple final touch to each dish presented.

Portion: 4/10

Generally it is 1 piece per portion. Take note, for each order is limited to 3 portions for a person.

Taste: 5/10
For fast serving food, the taste is as up to my expectation. Fast food standard.

Service: 2/10

As this is the first weekend of the promotion, the system and work flow is not properly in placed. Long interval of waiting between orders. Many of my orders were lost. At the end i did not manage to tried out many dishes.

Value for money: 7.5/10

Normal price RM35++ per person. Until 20 August 2009, 1 free for 4 paying guests of A'la Carte Buffet. If you go in 5, each person pays only RM32.20 (include tax).

OVERALL

The food choices is good for the priced offered. Hope that service will improve and the food can be served faster. To give a good and memorable dining experience to customers.

Bai Xiang Ting Restaurant RM0.99 HK Style Charcoal Roasted Chicken Rice

Nowadays, what can we buy with 99 cents? Not even a piece of fried banana.

Bai Xiang Ting was having a 99 cents chicken rice grand opening promotions for 3 days, so we went to check it out.

Even before the shop opens, there are many people queuing up waiting to go in to the restaurant for the 99 cents lunch. There were a few who ordered two to three plates just to enjoy their lunch.

Drinks I had Herbal Tea (Cold) RM2.00.




HK Style Charcoal Roasted Chicken with Rice RM0.99 (Normal Price RM5.50)

This chicken rice tasted superb. The aroma of the charcoal roasted chicken is one of the best I've ever had. It is comparable to the ones we had in KL. It is worth every single cent I spent on. Even if it's RM 5.50, it is worth a try.

Environment: 8/10
A very new restaurant. Nicely renovated with wooden tables and chairs. It gives the feeling of the Hong Kong style coffee shop.

Food Presentation: 6/10
For the 99 cents promo, the presentation is rather simple. Photos shown in menu are much better.

Portion: 7/10
Portion of rice is average, similar to other chicken rice shop.

Taste: 9/10

Very tasty. The charcoal roasted chicken taste penetrate deep into the bones of the chicken. Yummy!

Service: 6/10
Waiters were very busy on the first 3 days of opening.

Value for money: 10/10
This promotion is totally value for money. Did not regret dining there.

A new choice to go for lunch for FTZ Penang employers and employees.

Go Japin for Farewell Dinner

Another farewell, this time it was at Japin, Level 2, Queensbay Mall Penang.

They offer extensive varieties in the menu from ala carte to set meals and choices of rice or noodles. Let's move on and have a look on the meals we ordered:

Quiet, comfortable and quite relaxing.

Food Presentation: 5/10
The presentation simple, neat and clean.

Portion: 6/10
Filling for average eater. The fried chicken is huge.

Taste: 4/10
Just so so and would only say acceptable.

Service: 6/10
There were few waitress, one were attentive to us.

Value for money: 4.5/10
Oishii Promotion Ramen RM7.90 is worth it. For the rest, generally not worth it for the taste, although the portion is enough for one.

OVERALL
In the nut shell, experience in Japin is just average for the all the factors above. Japin do offers wide varieties of food. You can have a decent meal there but do not expect anything fancy.
